Currency: US Dollar, as of 2000. Circulated previously was the “Sucre.” Due to runaway inflation in the mid-1980’s and early 1990’s, the Sucre was discontinued. The Sucre is the namesake of a famous soldier in the rebel army of Simón Bolívar, a fellow revolutionary, which fought for autonomy against the Spanish colonials.
